About us

Metacleaner is an online tool that strips metadata out of common file formats so you can share files without leaking the data you didn't mean to share.

A photo from your phone usually carries the GPS location it was taken at. A Word document often has the author's full name, every previous editor, the company they work for, and the path on their hard drive. PDFs keep the software they were exported from. None of that is part of what you wanted to share, and most people never realise it's there.

Metacleaner removes that hidden data and leaves the rest of the file alone. You upload a file, we clean it, you download the cleaned version. The original is discarded once the response is sent back.

Does Metacleaner store the files I upload?
No. We do not store your data or metadata. Metacleaner only removes the metadata from the files you send and returns the cleaned file.
Do I need to install anything to use Metacleaner?
No installation is needed. Metacleaner runs in your browser.
